“Art is a nation’s most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish.” — President Lyndon B. Johnson
This year we are once again celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month by inviting you to nominate an arts/culture organization in your community to be highlighted on the NEA Facebook page between October 1-31. Each day’s featured organization will be selected by members of the NEA Public Affairs staff.
Who can be nominated?
Any arts or culture organization. (No self-nominations, please.)
How do I make the nomination?
Just drop an e-mail to beetep[AT]arts[DOT]gov with:
· SUBJECT LINE: NAHM Nomination
·Your name and the name of your community
· The name of the organization you’re nominating and its website URL
· Five words that you think best describe the organization you’re nominating
· Why you think this organization deserves to be in the spotlight (up to 100 words)
How do I find out if an organization I’ve nominated has been selected?
Like the National Endowment for the Arts on Facebook and check our page each day in October to see who’s in the spotlight!

Gold Coast Youth Orchestra is a small and growing group of talented, hard working a dedicated young musicians who deserve recognition and support. Music brings them together. Friendship will keep them together.
Thank you Tim and Donna for creating this group and keeping it running. You are ALL to be commended for your hard work and dedication.
The Lotus Education and Arts Foundation is a diverse, passionate, dedicated, intelligent and locally adored organization.
They just celebrated the 19th annual iteration of their main event – the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival in Bloomington Indiana. In addition to their fall festival, the organization produces an educational outreach event, which brings world cultures in the face of crafts, languages and music performances to local schools.
Every year, Lotus bring 24 – 28 musical groups from around the world to their city for the fall festival. A sign of local engagement and community adoption of Lotus are the 600+ volunteers that apply to take part. This local support is indeed the driving force behind the Lotus mission.

I nominate the Oratorio Society of Queens because it affords people the oppportunity to hear classical, operatic, Americana, spiritual music, Christmas carols, Chanukah music at affordable prices and we sing right in Queens. No matter what kind of a day I’ve had, it goes away the minute I hear the first downbeat.
Hello Ellen–
If you’d like to nominate the Oratorio Society, please follow the instructions in the blog post. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best,

Great idea, NEA, and at the Missouri Arts Council we are avidly following your Page to see if Missouri makes the cut. But we didn’t see any posts for October 6, 7, or 8. “Every day in October”?
Hi Barbara! We should have said “every business day” in October. No posts on the weekends or federal holidays. We look forward to being flooded with submissions from Missouri!
